Redwood Junior Scholarship Policy

Adopted for a 1 year trial May 19, 2008

PURPOSE

The Redwood League Scholarship program is designed to assist clubs who have a large number of scholarshipped players. As much as is in our power, we would like to enable all players who would like to play competitive soccer to not be prevented from doing so due to financial hardship.

GENERAL PROVISIONS

The Redwood League policy is that if a player must be given a scholarship, the money should first come from the other members of the team. If the team is unable to provide for the player, then the club should provide, and if the club is unable to provide without undo burden, then RWL will assist

SPECIFIC PROVISIONS

Each club can apply for assistance for the full amount of per player Fall season registration fees for Redwood League. As of 7/1/2011, this amount is $10. Any assistance provided by RWL must directly reduce fees to the individual listed on the information form. At a minimum, clubs must match the scholarship amount for each player.

To receive a scholarship, the club must submit a scholarship information form for each team requesting assistance as part of the registration submitted for that team. The scholarship form must be approved and signed by the club president.

For the 2008 Fall season, the maximum number of scholarships offered by RWL is 500. Scholarships will be offered on a first requested basis. Requests must be included in complete registration packets submitted to the League Registrar.

RWL will assist with fees related to participation in the Fall season of Redwood League. RWL will not assist with Spring registration fees, nor additional fees required to play in Abronzino or Delgado leagues. Scholarships will be provided for out of surplus RWL general funds by reducing team fees normally paid to Redwood League. At no time will money be dispersed directly to clubs or individuals.. In order to make this as easy as possible for the league registrars and treasurer, the assistance will only be for the full amount of the usual per player Fall registration fee.

Clubs that are not in good financial standing with RWL are not eligible.

Clubs who apply for scholarships must provide assistance to the next District 2 Cup or other league sponsored tournament following the application. Assistance can take the form of volunteer help and/or providing fields. Clubs who do not follow through on their commitments to provide assistance will be ineligible for further scholarships until assistance is provided.

The scholarship program will be overseen by the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee may delegate this oversight to a subcommittee of its choosing.

The Team Information Form will include:

Club Name
Team Name
Gender and Age Level
Coach Name and Contact information
Alternative Contact Individual and their Contact Information
A description of promised assistance to RWL in exchange for the reduced fees
Total Amount requested
Detail list of scholarshipped players (1)
Certification by the Club President indicating that they certify that the application is true and correct and that the team is expected to provide assistance at Redwood League tournaments.

Player Name
Player USYS ID#
Total Club and Team fees normally charged to Players on this team
Total Club and Team scholarship being given to this Player

The Total Club and Team Fees is the toyal amount that a player would typically pay during the course of the Fall season to participate on the team. Club Scholarship is the amount of that of the fee that the club or team will be reducing the fee for that player. RWL Scholarship is the amount that the club is asking the RWL to reduce fees. At no time may the club Scholarship amount be less that the RWL Scholarship amount.
